A dozen staff with New Bedford leadership at the city’s official proclamation for   Domestic Violence Awareness Month



What you may have missed…
October was a busy month at the District Attorney’s Office! For starters, it was Domestic Violence Awareness Month which lined staff calendars with various community and outreach events. Among other things, the office conducted another free youth basketball clinic, and conducted an event for youth in Fall River about positive decision-making. Below, you’ll also find headline news about what happened this October in our courts.

COMMUNITY AFFAIRS AND VOLUNTEERISM 

  • 27 staff attended 7 county events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 
  • The office conducted a cell phone drive all month for domestic violence victims
  • ADA Sheila Cunningham and Eric Poulin of the DA’s office gave a presentation on bullying and cyberbullying for the Fall River Housing Authority for National Bullying Prevention Month 
  • Staff distributed resources at the Somerset Home Depot Safety Day and the Dartmouth School Resource Fair
  • The DA’s office hosted its 69th annual basketball clinic for youth in Greater Fall River
  • Second Assistant District Attorney Paul Machado spoke to elders at SSTAR in Fall River about identifying and preventing abuse
  • The DA’s office partnered with the US Attorney’s Office to conduct Your Future, Your Decision during which a panel of speakers engaged students at the Talbot Middle School in Fall River to think about positive decision-making. A resource fair with information on positive, extracurricular activities followed.
