DA Sutter to Host Free Youth Basketball Clinic for Fall River Area Youth

On Saturday October 18th, Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter’s office will conduct a free basketball clinic for Fall River youth. The clinic marks the 69th free youth sports clinic offered by District Attorney Sutter since the program’s launch in 2007. To date, more than 4,600 total youth have been served.

Saturday’s free basketball clinic is a collaboration between the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the Fall River School Department, the Fall River Boys and Girls Club & BMC Durfee High School Varsity Basketball Teams. Jameson Guimond, Head Coach at BMC Durfee High School, will facilitate the clinic, assisted by players of the school’s basketball teams. In addition, members of the District Attorney’s office will serve as mentors to youth in attendance.

IMG_1519Since 2007, District Attorney Sutter has offered free sports clinics for youth interested in basketball, baseball, tennis, and lacrosse. The recurring program was launched as part of District Attorney Sutter’s unique ‘Volunteer Initiative,’ aiming to engage the community in a spirit of volunteerism and activities for pro-active crime prevention. As a result, the free sports clinics promote a healthy and active lifestyle, while providing youth with an outlet to stay involved and avoid risk factors for criminal activity. Staff from the District Attorney’s office volunteer at the sports clinics, in addition to numerous other community programs, resulting in more than 20,000 community service hours since 2007.

The program itself is managed by former Boston Red Sox pitcher, Brian Rose. Mr. Rose, a Dartmouth High School alumnus, works for the District Attorney’s Office in its Community Affairs Division acting as Volunteer Coordinator, Free Youth Sports Clinic Director, and Neighborhood Liaison.

Saturday’s one-day clinic will take place from 10:00am – 12:00pm at the Fall River Boys & Girls Club, located at 803 Bedford Street in Fall River. Participation is open to both boys and girls in grades 2-8. All levels welcome.
