Man Stabbed Thursday Night in New Bedford Dies; One Charged; Homicide Investigation Ongoing
New Bedford Police, State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and Homicide Unit Prosecutors are all investigating a homicide, which occurred in the City of New Bedford Thursday night.
Thursday evening around 6:45 p.m., a man suffering from an apparent stab wound walked into the New Bedford Police Department’s South End Station. The victim, who was later identified as Alex Silva, 22, of 394 Union Street, was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford where he was stabilized. Mr. Silva was then med-flighted to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence due to the severity of his wounds. He passed away early this morning at that facility.
One individual has already been charged in connection to this incident. Marco Shane Ramos, 25, of Social Street in New Bedford was arrested without incident Friday afternoon at his home prior to the victim’s death. He is charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon-Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Armed Robbery. Mr. Ramos is being held without bail over the weekend and is scheduled to appear in New Bedford District Court Monday.
Police and prosecutors are actively investigating this incident and no further information can be released at this time. An autopsy is being conducted by the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office since the death occurred in that state.
The investigation is being coordinated by Assistant District Attorney Katie Rayburn.
