Charges Against Man Connected to Thursday Night Stabbing in New Bedford Upgraded to Murder

Charges against Marco Shane Ramos connected to a Thursday night stabbing in the City of New Bedford have been upgraded to murder.

Mr. Ramos is now charged with murder, armed robbery and carrying a dangerous weapon. The new charges were filed just afternoon today in New Bedford District Court.

Mr. Ramos will be arraigned on these new charges this afternoon in that same court.

Thursday evening around 6:45 p.m., a man suffering from an apparent stab wound walked into the New Bedford Police Department’s South End Station. The victim, who was later identified as Alex Silva, 22, of 394 Union Street, was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford where he was stabilized. Mr. Silva was then med-flighted to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence due to the severity of his wounds. He passed away Saturday at that facility.

Mr. Ramos, 25, of Social Street in New Bedford was arrested without incident Friday afternoon at his home prior to the victim’s death.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office since the death occurred in that state.

The ongoing investigation is being coordinated by Assistant District Attorney Katie Rayburn.
