A 41-year-old career criminal who committed an unarmed robbery at a North Attleboro convenience store in August 2021 was sentenced to serve four to five years in state prison last Friday in Fall River Superior Court, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Jason Delaney, who has no known address, pled guilty to an indictment charging him with Unarmed Robbery.

On August 7, 2021, officers from the North Attleboro Police Department responded to the Seasons convenience store for the report of a panic alarm activation.  When the officers arrived, they met with the store clerk, who indicated that a male had entered the store and walked around for a few minutes.  The man left without buying anything and then returned approximately ten minutes later.  When the man reentered the store, he let several customers cut him before he placed a bottle of water on the counter.  When the clerk rang up the water, the cash register opened.  Once opened, the man reached over the counter, grabbed the cash register tray and removed a quantity of money.  The man fled the store saying “don’t do nothing.”  Responding police did not locate the suspect but did secure a copy of the store surveillance video.

On August 10, 2021, the defendant was arrested in Springfield. When detectives from North Attleboro viewed his Springfield booking photo, they believed that the same man arrested in Springfield robbed the Seasons convenience store in North Attleboro three days earlier.  The victim ended up identifying this defendant during the presentation of a photo array.

The defendant has multiple prior convictions and has served prison time for Unarmed Robbery, Armed Robbery and Armed Carjacking.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jason Mohan and the state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Thomas McGuire.

“This defendant is a career robber and thief who clearly needs to be kept off the streets to protect the public,” District Attorney Quinn said.
