A 39-year-old New Bedford drug dealer was sentenced to serve three years in state prison last week in Fall River Superior Court, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Ernesto Montalvo pleaded guilty to indictments charging him with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession of cocaine, possession of suboxone, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition without an FID Card.

The defendant was the target of a New Bedford Police search warrant at 353 Coggeshall Street, Apt. 2. On Sept. 30, 2021 officers set executed the search warrant and located more than 30 grams of fentanyl, two baggies of crack cocaine, five suboxone strips, a .45 caliber handgun, nine rounds of ammunition, more than $3,000 in cash, packaging materials, digital scales, cutting agents, a narcotics ledger, and cut corner bags.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kaitlyn O’Leary and the state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Sharon Donatelle.  In addition to the prison sentence, the defendant was also placed on probation for an additional two years during which he will undergo random drug screening and must complete substance abuse treatment.

“The defendant is making money off drug addicted people in our communities,” District Attorney Quinn said. “The sentence was appropriate to protect the public.”
