Homicide in New Bedford Leads to Quick Arrest of Suspect

A 55-year-old New Bedford man was formally charged this afternoon with murder in connection to a fatal stabbing of a 27-year-old man which occurred in the City of New Bedford on Sunday, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
At around 12:05 a.m. today, New Bedford Police received a 911 call from a resident at 291 Emerson Street reporting that a man had been stabbed during an altercation inside the home. When police and rescue officials arrive don scene, they located the victim suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The victim, who was later identified as Steven Doyle, 27, of New Bedford, was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators spoke with several witnesses and developed information that led them to William Macomber, 55, of New Bedford. Mr. Macomber was located early this morning in a parked vehicle on Shawmut Avenue and arrested.
The defendant will be held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned on a charge of murder tomorrow morning in New Bedford District Court.
