New Bedford Man Connected to Seekonk Armed Robbery Sentenced to State Prison

A 29-year-old New Bedford man who participated in an armed robbery at a busy Subway restaurant in Seekonk last year was convicted and sentenced to serve up to four years in state prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Cesar Berroa pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to a single-count indictment, charging him with armed robbery.

On March 22, 2017 at 3pm, this defendant and another individual, Isiah Garcia, entered  the Subway at 142 Central Avenue in Seekonk.  Both Berroa and Garcia were masked, with “hoodies” covering their faces, only their eyes and noses were exposed.  Garcia pulled out what appeared to be a gun and demanded the workers open the cash drawer.  The worker opened the drawer and Garcia grabbed the money out of the drawer.  The stolen amount was about $600.  Berroa stood at the door as a look out. Surveillance video from inside the eatery shows Berroa lock the door when they were inside.

Garcia and Berroa fled the scene in a car.  Berroa was later arrested in New Bedford by New Bedford Police.  The case against Garcia is still open and pending.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Daniel Walsh and the two-and-a-half to four year state prison sentence was handed down by Judge Raffi Yessayan.

“The defendant participated in a robbery involving a gun at a busy restaurant in broad daylight against a victim who was just trying to do his job,” District Attorney Quinn said. “The sentence imposed by the court holds this defendant accountable for his role in this incident.”
