Bristol County District Attorney’s Office

Thomas M. Quinn III

District Attorney

PRESS RELEASE

October 25, 2016

Jayden Smith, 16, of Fall River, was ordered held without bail during his arraignment today in Superior Court on a multi-count indictment charging him with murder, carrying an illegal firearm and possession of a loaded illegal firearm connected to the July 11 murder of 29-year-old Jerrod Cohen.

Mr. Smith was arrested shortly before midnight Monday by members of the Fall River Police Department, the State Police Detective Unit assigned to District Attorney Quinn’s office and the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.  Mr. Smith was located hiding in a bedroom at the home of a friend at 448 East Main Street.

Smith’s friend, a 16-year-old Fall River resident, was also arrested and charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact. He was set to be arraigned in Fall River Juvenile Court this afternoon. Due to his status as a juvenile not charged with murder, further information about him cannot be released.

Mr. Smith has been wanted by authorities since shortly after the shooting death of Mr. Cohen outside the victim’s 129 Plain Street, Fall River, home. He was ranked #1 on the Fall River Police Department’s Most Wanted List and was recently added to the Massachusetts State Police’ Most Wanted List.

Mr. Smith is due back in Fall River Superior Court for a pretrial hearing on December 13.
