Taunton Fatal Boat Crash Investigation

Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts Environmental Police, prosecutors and others are actively investigating a fatal boat crash, which occurred this afternoon in The City of Taunton.

Three speed boats competing in the Bill Giles Memorial Regatta collided on Watson Pond around 1 p.m. today. All three boat drivers were ejected into the water due to the impact of the collision. Members of the Taunton Fire Department’s Dive Team were on scene at the time of the incident and were quickly able to pull all three individuals from the water.

One of the boaters, a 39-year-old New Hampshire man, died at the scene. 

A second boater, a 67-year-old Maine man, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where he is currently in critical condition.

A third boater, a 72-year-old Maine man, was treated for minor injuries.

The victims cannot be publicly identified at this time pending next of kin notification.

No foul play is suspected at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
