Two Indicted in Connection to July 31 New Bedford Homicide

District Attorney Sam Sutter announced today that a Bristol County Grand Jury has indicted 26-year-old Marco Shane Ramos, for the July murder of 22-year-old Alex Silva in New Bedford.

Ramos, of 3 Social Street, New Bedford, was indicted on a charge of murder and will be formally arraigned in Fall River Superior Court on a date yet to be scheduled by the court.

On the evening of July 31st around 6:45 p.m., a man suffering from an apparent stab wound walked into the New Bedford Police Department’s South End Station. The victim, who was later identified as Alex Silva, 22, of 394 Union Street, was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford where he was stabilized. Mr. Silva was then med-flighted to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence due to the severity of his wounds. He passed away Saturday at that facility.

Also indicted by the Grand Jury today was Amarylis Valera, 21, of 799 South First Street in New Bedford. Valera is being charged with unarmed robbery and accessory to murder after the fact. Her arraignment date in Fall River Superior Court has also yet to be scheduled.

Both defendants are currently being held in jail without bail after their respective district court arraignments last month.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Katie Rayburn.
