Meth Trafficker Arrested in Dartmouth Sentenced to State Prison

A 32-year-old Meth-Amphetamine trafficker from Harwich was sentenced today to serve four to six years in state prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

On May 26, 20202 a around 5:30 pm, a Massachusetts State Trooper stopped the Matthew Chicoine’s vehicle after observing him on a handheld cell phone and abruptly changing lanes without signaling on Route 195 in Dartmouth. When the trooper initiated the stop, he observed the defendant leaning his body down toward passenger side floor and quickly sat back up. The trooper observed the defendant physically shaking and sweating profusely. While speaking to the defendant, the trooper observed a pink oval pill in the driver door pocket near a pack of cigarettes.  When asked if he was taking any medications or drugs, the defendant denied, saying he’s clean. The trooper also observed a Wendy’s bag on the passenger side floor in the same area the defendant was seen reaching.

After removing the defendant from the car, a search revealed 552 pink pills in the Wendy’s bag. The pills were later tested and determined to be Meth-Amphetamine.

Earlier this week, the defendant pled guilty in Fall River Superior Court to a single count indictment, charging him with Trafficking Meth-Amphetamine.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Catherine Sauter and the four to six year state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Raffi Yessayan.

“The defendant was trafficking a large quantity of a very dangerous drug.  The state prison sentence was appropriate,” District Attorney Quinn said.
