A 34-year-old New Bedford man arrested twice for trafficking narcotics in 2017 and 2018 was sentenced to serve 12 years in state prison last week, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
Eduardo Aguillar Serano pleaded guilty to indictments charging him with trafficking in excess of 100 grams cocaine, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, trafficking in excess of 36 grams of heroin and trafficking in excess fo 100 grams of heroin.

In January of 2017, a New Bedford Police Detective developed information that a red Ford Focus was conducting cocaine deliveries throughout the cities of Fall River and New Bedford.  At 7:30pm on January 17th, the car was spotted in New Bedford, and surveillance was set up of the car.  A query of the car was conducted, showing it to be a rental that was not returned and therefore listed as stolen out of Springfield, MA as of January 14.  At 8:30pm, the car was being driven by the defendant.  The car was followed from New Bedford to Providence, when surveillance was lost around 9:21pm.  However the car was spotted once again at 9:57pm traveling back east on Route 195.  The car was eventually stopped by police in New Bedford.  Found inside the Focus was one saran wrap of cocaine weighing 524 grams located under the front overhang of the passenger’s seat, one saran wrap of cocaine weighing 205 grams in the glove compartment, and one saran wrap of heroin weighing 95 grams located in the trunk.  Fingerprints were located on the heroin that matched the defendant.

On September 17, 2018, while the defendant was out on bail, he became the target of search warrants for his apartment, his Chevy Camaro, and his Honda Accord.  On the day of execution of the warrants, the defendant was seen walking to the Camaro, carrying a black and pink colored bag over his shoulder, which he placed in the trunk. When attempting to stop him in that car, defendant tried to flee and struck two police cruisers.  A search of his car was then conducted, and inside that black and pink bag, police found 487 grams of heroin.  $2,183 in cash was also seized from the car and the apartment.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Matthew Sylvia and the state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Karen Green.

“On two occasions, this defendant was caught trafficking large amounts of heroin and cocaine, which contributes greatly to the drug epidemic in our cities.  He committed the second offense while out on bail.  Based on the amount of drugs seized, a substantial prison sentence was warranted.  The defendant is not a US citizen and is subject to removal proceedings,” District Attorney Quinn said.
