Fall River Fentanyl Dealer Sentenced to Prison
Press Release
A 24-year-old Fall River arrested in July 2018 for distributing large amounts of fentanyl, was sentenced to serve two to four years in state prison last week, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
Jesus Velez pleaded guilty last Wednesday in Fall River Superior Court to a single count indictment charging him with possession with intent to distribute a class A drug.
On July 27, 2018, Fall River Police Vice Unit had a search warrant for a Fourth Street apartment. Montanna Fernandes and Jesus Velez were the targets. When police entered the apartment they found Velez and Fernandes in the bedroom. When they were escorting Fernandes to the living room, she dropped a bag of Fentanyl from her shorts. When they searched the rest of the bedroom, they located narcotics located behind some frames on the wall and also in the dog food container. All drugs were thought to be heroin until tested at the state lab. All tested drugs turned out to be fentanyl. In total, the drugs weighed roughly 350 grams. $6,690 was also seized during the execution of the warrant.
Fernandes was sentenced to a 6-12 year state prison sentence for trafficking in fentanyl on January 3, 2020.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kristen Wiley and Daniel Walsh, and the state prison term was imposed by Judge Thomas McGuire.
