Easton Man Involved in Sunday Fatal Crash Arrested on Manslaughter Charge
| A 25-year-old Easton man, who was involved in the fatal motor vehicle crash in Easton Sunday afternoon that claimed the life of 37-year-old Scott A. Lewis, was arrested at his home last night on a charge of Manslaughter, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
Jake McCabe was arrested without incident and a bail clerk set $10,000 cash bail, which the defendant posted last night. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, the defendant will not be formally arraigned on the Manslaughter until June 2nd in Taunton District Court. Police on Sunday issued a criminal citation to Jake McCabe, requesting that charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, marked lanes violation and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle issue against him. That portion of the matter will be set down for a clerk’s hearing through the Taunton District Court at a later date. Police and prosecutors continue to actively investigate the fatal two-car crash. Since the defendant has yet to be arraigned in open court, this office is unable to provide further information regarding the alleged facts of the case at this time. |
| At approximately 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, Easton Police and Fire were dispatched to the area of 539 Bay Road for a report of a head-on collision. Upon arrival, first responders located the vehicles involved in the crash and began rendering aid to both victims. |
| The lone occupant of one of the vehicles, a Kia Rio, died as a result of his injuries. The deceased victim, who died at the scene of the crash, has been identified as Scott A. Lewis, 37, of South Easton. Jake McCabe, the lone occupant of the second vehicle, a Cadillac Escalade, was transported to Boston Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. |
| Massachusetts State Police detectives from Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III’s office responded to the scene of the fatal crash and are being assisted in the active and ongoing investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Easton Police detectives. |
