Press Release
June 23, 2019
The suspect wanted for the Saturday night homicide in North Attleboro was found deceased this evening in the Francis C. Carter Memorial Preserve in Charlestown, RI. The suspect was the victim of an apparent suicide.
A Narragansett Police K-9 officer and his police dog located the deceased body of Steven Fregeolle in the preserve at around 6:30 pm today.
An arrest warrant had been issued earlier today for Fregeolle, 32, of Johnston, RI. The warrant charged him with murder in connection to the Saturday evening fatal shooting of Brandi Berg, 37, of Riverside, RI.
The suspect’s abandoned vehicle was located this morning by police in Charlestown, RI, in the area of the Francis C. Carter Memorial Preserve. Police had been searching the preserve and other locations in the region for Fregeolle for much of the day.
Fregeolle was the sole suspect in the North Attleboro homicide.
North Attleboro Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to this office and homicide unit prosecutors continue to actively investigate the homicide, which occurred last night in the parking lot of the Fashion Crossing Plaza on Route 1 in North Attleboro.
At around 6 pm on Saturday, North Attleboro Police responded to a reported shooting in the parking lot at the shopping plaza. When first responders arrived, they quickly located the victim, who was non-responsive and injured from apparent gunshot wounds she sustained while inside her vehicle.
The victim was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where she was pronounced deceased.
As the investigation is active and ongoing at this time, no further information can be released at this time.
