Fall River Domestic Abuser Sentenced to Prison

A 29-year-old Fall River man who twice assaulted and threatened his live-in girlfriend in November 2016 was sentenced to serve three years in state prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Sharotty Scott pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to two counts of assault and battery on a family or household member.

In November 2016, the victim reported to police that on two different dates, about a week apart, the defendant had assaulted her by grabbing her by the shoulders and throat ,and throwing her down each time.  On one occasion he threatened her with a metal door security rod.   

Despite the victim’s reluctance to go forward with the case and her efforts to hinder the prosecution, Assistant District Attorney Kyle McPherson, with the assistance of Victim Witness Advocate Mayka Rodrigues and Fall River Police Civilian Advocate Paula Wilding, were able to obtain enough cogent information from the victim in order to secure a guilty plea in the case.

The defendant had a history of domestic violence issues with other women and was known to Fall River Police.  The state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Raffi Yessayan.

“I am pleased that the defendant was held accountable for assaulting the victim,” District Attorney Quinn said. “I would like to thank our Victim Witness Advocate, Mayka Rodrigues, and Fall River Police Advocate, Paula Wilding, for their efforts in helping make this disposition possible.  These types of cases can be very difficult to prosecute.”
