Press Release: Arrest Made in Connection to Wednesday Morning New Bedford Homicide

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn announced that 16-year-old David Lima was arrested earlier this afternoon in Fall River and charged with the Wednesday morning New Bedford homicide of Jonas Trinidad Jr.
The defendant, who resides at 146 Matthew Street in New Bedford, was arrested by the Fall River Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit and Massachusetts State Police at an apartment on Cross Street in Fall River. He was apprehended without incident and is being held in jail overnight pending his arraignment tomorrow morning in New Bedford District Court. He is charged with murder, carrying an illegal firearm and carrying a loaded illegal firearm.
Aside from New Bedford Police, Fall River Police and Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to this office, the Department of Youth Services and parole officers also assisted in the investigation and the search for the suspect.
The arraignment will be handled by Assistant District Attorney Robert DiGiantomaso, who helped coordinate the investigation along with Deputy District Attorney William McCauley
New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office and Homicide Unit prosecutors continue to actively investigate the homicide.
New Bedford Police received 911 calls at 11 a.m. Wednesday to report that a young male had been shot near the intersection of Matthew and Bank streets. The victim, 20-year-old Jonas Trinidad Jr., was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No further comment can be made on the case prior to the defendant’s arraignment in open court tomorrow.
