Fall River Child Rape Case Results in Lengthy State Prison Term

A 44-year-old Fall River man will spend the next seven to nine years in state prison after being convicted yesterday of raping his girlfriend’s teenage daughter.

Osvaldo Leite pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court Monday to an indictment charging him with two counts of rape of a child, two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14 and one count of assault with intent to rape a child.

The incident occurred in Fall River in October of 2014 while the mother of the child was at work. Although the defendant told the victim never to tell anyone, the victim told her mother about the sexual assault five days after it occurred.

The victim and her mother were present in court during yesterday’s plea hearing and read a victim impact statement.

The case was prosecuted by Co-First Assistant District Attorney Karen O’Sullivan.

“The defendant took advantage of his relationship with the victim’s mother and sexually abused an innocent 13 year old girl,” District Attorney Quinn said.  “Her focus should have been trying to enjoy her adolescence and not being sexually assaulted by her mother’s boyfriend.  I want to thank her for her courage in being prepared to testify against the defendant.  I hope she can move forward and lead a productive life.”
