PRESS RELEASE
January 24, 2017

Michael Arthur Noguera, the 47-year-old Florida man arrested in South Carolina in November in connection to the fatal shooting of Daniel G. Smith in Easton, was ordered held without bail during his arraignment today in Fall River Superior Court.

Mr. Noguera was returned by Massachusetts State Troopers to the Bay State last Friday and was arraigned this afternoon on a four count indictment, charging him with murder, armed robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and carrying an illegal firearm.  He is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on March 13.

At 1:06 p.m. on November 8, 2016, Easton Police received a 911 call from an Easton woman who told police that her young sons, while riding their bikes in the woods, came upon a man who was suffering from gunshot wounds.

Easton Police immediately responded to a wooded area between Pond Street and Langwater Pond. The man, who has been identified as Daniel G. Smith, was found about 25 yards into the woods. He was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton before being med-flighted to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he remained in critical condition until November 11th when he died at the hospital.

On November 12, 2016, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn’s office, along with members of the Horry County (South Carolina) Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, located and arrested the defendant. Mr. Noguera was found in a trailer on Canine Drive in Conway, SC.

Assistant District Attorney Jeanne Veenstra handled today’s arraignment.
