Press Release

April 13, 2016

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced that a 39-year-old Taunton man who was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm with three prior offenses was sentenced to serve six-and-a-half to nine-and-a-half years in state prison this week.

On October 12, 2013, Taunton Police executed a search warrant on the defendant’s vehicle and home looking for cocaine.  The defendant cooperated when his car was stopped and stated he had a firearm in his car and drugs in his home.  A Jennings Model .25 was found with five rounds of ammunition in the glove box.  The house was searched and approximately 10 grams of cocaine was found in 32 separate bags. The defendant was carrying $850.00 on him at the time of arrest.

Derrick Daniels submitted an “agreed plea” before Judge Raymond Veary in Fall River Superior Court on Tuesday. ADA Patrick Driscoll who was assigned to this matter presented the facts of the case and the defendant’s lengthy criminal history, which includes seventy-one adult arraignments including a long history of House of Correction commitments for drug related offenses including a two-and-a-half year committed sentence in Dorchester in 2007. The sentence was imposed on Mr. Daniels to serve six-and-a-half to nine-and-a-half years in state prison. “This defendant has a significant record of prior convictions for drug dealing and other offenses.” District Attorney Quinn said. “The state prison sentence was appropriate based on the facts and record.”
