Fairhaven Man to Be Arraigned Friday in Connection With February 6th Fairhaven Hit-And-Run

A 20-year-old Fairhaven man has been charged in connection with a February 6th hit-and-run motor vehicle incident that left two people seriously injured, one of whom remains in critical condition.

William James Pires will be arraigned tomorrow morning in New Bedford District Court on charges of leaving the scene of personal injury and negligent operation of motor vehicle.

On February 6th around 2:05 a.m., Fairhaven Police responded to the area of Sycamore and Winsor Streets for a report of two people lying in the roadway. The victims, Christine Machado, 40, of Fairhaven and Terrence Hope, 50, of New Bedford, were immediately transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford for treatment. Mr. Hope has since been treated and released. However, Ms. Machado was flown to the Boston Medical Center via Med-Flight and remains in critical condition.

An ongoing investigation being conducted by Detective Scott Gordon of Fairhaven Police and Massachusetts State Police Trooper Christopher Dumont assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office resulted in the criminal charges currently lodged against the defendant.

More information regarding the facts of the case will be detailed during tomorrow morning’s arraignment.
