About 35 people gathered at the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) on Friday April 10th for a special “appreciation luncheon” hosted by Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III. The gathering was hosted as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month to honor and recognize the successful partnership between the Children’s Advocacy Center and the District Attorney’s Office in their collaborative efforts to combat child abuse.

District Attorney Quinn formally presented a $20,000 check from the office’s drug forfeiture funds to Michelle Loranger, Executive Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center, to support the agency in its ongoing efforts to serve and assist abused children and their families. Those in attendance included the Board of Directors and staff of the Children’s Advocacy Center, and staff from the District Attorney’s Victim Witness and Special Victims Units.

The District Attorney’s Office is charged with the prosecution of all criminal incidents of child abuse. The office has prosecutors and advocates who are specifically trained to handle such cases via its Special Victims Unit. During the course of investigations and prosecutions, the District Attorney’s Office works closely with the Children’s Advocacy Center. The CAC provides a safe and comfortable environment, as well as a streamlined process to reduce trauma, for children who disclose incidents of abuse.
