A 45-year-old Taunton man will spend the next 24 to 35 years in prison after being convicted by a jury of raping and sexually molesting his three step-daughters several times over the course of a five year time period last decade, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
Alexander Santana was convicted by a jury of his peers last month of four counts of Rape of a Child-Aggravated by Age Difference, four counts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person Under the Age of 14, two counts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person Over the Age of 14 and one count of Assault with Intent to Rape.
On June 30th, the defendant was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Renee Dupuis to serve 24 to 35 years in state prison, to be followed by 10 years of supervised probation.
The evidence presented at trial proved the defendant first began molesting his oldest step-daughter before then moving on to raping and molesting his younger two step-daughters. The criminal acts occurred between February of 2014 and April of 2019.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lesly Leahy. It was ADA Leahy’s final jury trial as a prosecutor before retiring. She had served as a prosecutor in Bristol County, handling mainly cases involving young and vulnerable victims of sexual and physical abuse, for more than three decades.
“I am very pleased the defendant was convicted of sexually assaulting three young victims, to whom he served as a father figure. I commend the victims for coming forward and testifying against the victim under very difficult circumstances. The defendant’s conduct was unconscionable and depraved. The lengthy sentence imposed by the court was well-deserved,” District Attorney Quinn said.
