A 55-year-old New Bedford man, who raped his pre-teen family member on multiple occasions, will serve the next 10 to 15 years in state prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
William Green, who pleaded guilty on June 1st to indictments charging him with Rape of a Child, Assault with Intent to Rape a Child, Incest, Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person Under the Age of 14 and Strangulation/Suffocation, was sentenced yesterday in Fall River Superior Court to the state prison term. Judge Raffi Yessayan also placed the defendant on supervised probation for an additional five years.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys MaryClare Flynn and Casey Smith.
The incidents occurred between June of 2014 and April of 2015 when the child and her mother had temporarily moved in with the defendant.
“The defendant took advantage of his relationship and access to the victim, and sexually abused her. The defendant has a prior conviction in Maine from many years ago for sexual assault, and should never have had access to this child,” District Attorney Quinn said. “The facts are very disturbing and the substantial state prison sentence is warranted.”
