A 22-year-old Attleboro man was sentence to serve up to five years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this month to raping and molesting his pre-teen neighbor in early 2019, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Kevin Cardona pled guilty in Fall River Superior Court on March 3rd to indictments charging him with Rape of a Child by Force and Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person Under the Age of 14.

The incident occurred during a Super Bowl party in February of 2019 at the victim’s family’s home in Attleboro.  The defendant, who was 18 at the time, entered the girl’s bedroom where he first molested her and then raped her while covering her mouth.

The child victim reported the incident to her therapist the next day, at which point Attleboro Police were informed.  Police recovered the victim’s underwear, which tested positive for sperm and was a DNA match to the defendant.

During a sentencing hearing before Judge Raffi Yessayan, Assistant District Attorney Lesly Leahy argued for a five to 10 years state prison sentence to be followed by five years of supervised probation.  The defense requested a more lenient two-and-a-half year house of corrections sentence with an additional five years of probation.  Judge Yessayan eventually sentenced the defendant to serve three to five years in state prison, to be followed by five years of supervised probation.

“The defendant took advantage of his access to the victim, and her young age, to sexually assault her. I am pleased he has been held accountable for his deviant behavior,” District Attorney Quinn said.
