Fatal Boating Incident in Fall River Under Investigation

Investigators with various state, local and federal agencies are actively investigating a fatal boating incident which occurred in Mount Hope Bay in between Buoys nine and ten in Fall River late Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 5:34 pm on Saturday, multiple 911 calls were placed to report a boat crash in which two males were ejected from the boat.  

The boat, a blue power boat, was being operated by its owner, Marc Hanoud, 35, of Berkley.  As of this hour, Mr. Hanoud remains missing at sea. A search was conducted by the US Coast Guard  throughout the evening and has continued today.  If and when, he is discovered this office will send out a follow up media advisory.

The only other passenger on the boat, Brent Osborne, 42, of Middleboro, was also ejected during the incident.  He was discovered in the water by another boater and rushed back to shore at the Tipsy Seagull boat dock in Fall River.  Mr. Osborne was then rushed to St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River where he was pronounced deceased at 7:05 pm.

A preliminary investigation into the incident has revealed that it appears the boat crashed as a result of hitting a large wave in the ocean at a high rate of speed.  However, the investigation remains active and ongoing at this time and is being conducted by State Police Troopers assigned to this office, members of the Massachusetts Environmental Police Boat Accident Bureau, the US Coast Guard and the Fall River Police.

As the investigation is ongoing, no further information can be released at this time.
