Repeat New Bedford Burglar Sentenced to Prison

A 36-year-old New Bedford man with a lengthy history of committing burglaries in the area was convicted in Fall River Superior Court this week of breaking into a Fairhaven home last September, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

John Dangora pleaded guilty indictments charging him with breaking and entering during the daytime to commit a felony and larceny from a building. He was sentence by Judge Raffi Yessayan to serve two to four years in state prison.

On September 11, 2018 at 3pm Fairhaven Police received call from a Sycamore Street homeowner, who called to report a breaking and entering in progress.  The homeowner was at work when he got an alert on his phone regarding motion detected in his dining room.  He tuned in to his home security system via his cellphone and saw the defendant taking electronics from his dining room table and placing them in a bag. 

Responding officers spotted the defendant at intersection of Howland Road & Sycamore Street walking along the street with pillowcase over his shoulder. Police stopped the defendant and a subsequent search of the pillowcase revealed two laptops, three knives, a hatchet, two Chinese stars, a watch, a wedding band, cash and a debit card belonging to the homeowner.

“The defendant has a history of breaking into people’s homes and stealing their property. He has continued to violate homeowners’ sense of security  by repeatedly engaging in housebreaks,” District Attorney Quinn said.  “The only solution is a state prison sentence to protect the public. This case again highlights the importance of modern technology in solving crimes.”
