Press Release
June 24, 2016
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced that a 23-year-old New Bedford man who was in possession of a firearm without a license was sentenced to serve three years in state prison last week.
Nathan Cormier pleaded guilty last Friday in Fall River Superior Court to charges of possession of a firearm with a prior offense and possession of ammunition with a prior offense. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Patrick Driscoll and the sentence was handed down by Judge Renee Dupuis.
On July 28, 2015, Dartmouth police executed a search warrant where the defendant was not the target of the warrant but was present. An unloaded .22 caliber handgun was found in a shoe box with .22 caliber ammunition lying around the box. Mr. Cormier admitted to police that he is in possession of the items and that he bought them because he needs to protect himself. The defendant did not possess a license to carry or an FID card.
