Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced today that a 29-year-old East Providence man, who in 2014 robbed a bank in Swansea, was sentenced to state prison yesterday.
Alan Cuthill pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to a one-count indictment charging him with armed robbery, and was sentenced to serve 3.5 to 5.5 years in state prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Carolyn Morrissette.
On August 1, 2014 at 12:55pm, Swansea Police were dispatched to BayCoast Bank located at 554 Wilbur Avenue for a bank robbery. A male dressed in black clothing with his face covered had entered the bank while brandishing a handgun and demanded money. The female bank teller gave money to the suspect and the suspect then fled in a black SUV.
After an extensive multi-state investigation into the bank robbery, police were able to identify Mr. Cuthill as the prime suspect. On Septemeber 11, 2014, Mr. Cuthill was arrested without incident by East Providence Police.
I am satisfied that this defendant is in state prison for robbing a helpless bank teller just doing her job. The prosecution of armed robberies of innocent people and local businesses will continue to be a priority for my office,” said District Attorney Quinn. ” I would also like to commend the Swansea Police Fepartment and the East Providence Police Department for their investigation and apprehension of this repeat offender.”
