Homicide Investigation Ongoing in New Bedford

New Bedford Police, Homicide Unit prosecutors and state police detectives assigned to this office are actively investigating a homicide, which occurred in the City of New Bedford last night.
Police responded to shots fired in the area of 125 Collette Street last night around 9:20 p.m.
Upon arrival, first responders found two male victims outside a home at that address. The deceased victim has been identified as Daniel Smith, 20, of New Bedford. A second victim, a 25-year-old man who is not being identified at this time, was rushed to an area hospital where he was in critical condition as of earlier today. The Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the deceased and will perform an autopsy.
If anyone was in the area surrounding Collette Street last night between 9 and 9:30 p.m. who may have seen anything or has any information about the incident, they are urged to contact New Bedford Police at 508-991-6300 or by utilizing the department’s anonymous tip line at 508-961-4584.
