New Bedford Homicide Victim Identity and Update

The victims of last night’s homicide in New Bedford can now be publicly identified. The victim is Aaron Gant Jr., 24, of New Bedford.

Further investigation overnight has determined the shooting occurred on Grinnell Street near the intersection to Pleasant Street around 7:10 p.m.

New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office and Homicide Unit prosecutors are investigating a homicide, which occurred in the City of New Bedford last evening.

Mr. Gant, the victim of a gunshot wound, arrived at St. Luke’s Hospital around 7:20 p.m. after being driven there in a private vehicle. Mr. Gant was declared deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.

If anyone was in the area of Grinnell Street near the intersections to Pleasant and Purchase streets between 7:00 and 7:20 pm last night and witnessed anything suspicious, they are urged to contact New Bedford Police at 508-991-6300 or use the department’s anonymous tip line by calling 508-961-4584.

No further information regarding the facts and evidence of the ongoing homicide investigation will be released at this time. If any arrests are made or more information can be publicly disseminated, this office will send out a follow up press release.
