Mother of Newborn Found Deceased in New Bedford Charged and to Be Arraigned Today

The mother of the newborn baby discovered outside a home at 1065 County Street on April 11th was charged today in New Bedford District Court with the obstruction of justice portion of the witness intimidation statute and concealment of the death of a child born out of wedlock.

Tamlyn Gonzalez, 22, of 1065 County Street, was taken into custody this morning by New Bedford Police and will be arraigned on the charges in New Bedford District Court around 2:00 p.m. today.

The investigation into the case was coordinated by Assistant District Attorney Maryclare Flynn, who will also be handling today’s arraignment.

New Bedford Police received a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. on April 11th  from a resident who discovered the remains of the deceased infant outside of a three-story home at 1065 County Street. Police and rescue personnel rushed to the scene, and upon discovery of the deceased infant, contacted this office and state police detectives assigned to this office.

No further information regarding the facts of the investigation into this case can be released prior to arraignment. More details will be discussed in open court during today’s court proceedings.
